What does the quote mean? What do you think of New Year’s resolutions? Are you able to keep them? Why/why not?

- Will introduce participial phrases and infinitive phrases tomorrow

- Write poetry with grammar! (focusing on prepositional phrases and gerund phrases) Must write 2 poems, 1 of each form. Form and examples are here.

- Bell Assignment: Welcome back! Pick one of the best things from your Christmas break and tell me about it in about 5 sentences.

- Talk about instructional design for next 4 weeks:

1. Short grammar unit focusing on applying concepts learned 1st semester

2. Begin research unit (6 weeks total)

- Recap parts of speech, phrases, clauses

- Assignment: Develop a simple sentence with an article (a, an, the), a subject, and a verb. Rewrite the sentence again adding another part of speech (keep it simple, one or two words at a time). Repeat to incorporate examples of all 8 parts of speech. Do a total of 3 sentences. Will be checked tomorrow! Example here.
